The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) has just published a Special Notice No. 1 to warn of the occurrence of rain, showers, and thunderstorms in the western and central regions in the coming hours, which could lead to flooding in low-lying areas.

"Increased likelihood of showers, rain, and thunderstorms in the western part of the country starting tomorrow afternoon, Monday the 24th, and continuing into the night and early morning of Tuesday the 25th in the central region, warned INSMET in its bulletin at 9 a.m. this Sunday."

The note adds that "the rains may be heavy and intense in some areas, and strong winds in gusts will be recorded, associated with thunderstorms."

Due to the high volume of rainfall, "flooding could occur in low-lying and poorly drained areas."

This weather situation will occur due to the advance of a cold front, which will move rapidly across the western and central parts of Cuba.

The front is expected to reach the eastern provinces on Tuesday afternoon, but in a weakened state.

The announcement, although made in advance this time, has generated immediate concern among thousands of Cubans whose homes are not safe to withstand the heavy rains ahead.

The Weather in Cuba for Today

Regarding the weather conditions forecast for today, INSMET predicts that the sky will be partly cloudy over much of the national territory, with stable conditions that will persist for most of the day.

Minimum temperatures will range between 20°C and 23°C, while maximum temperatures will be between 26°C and 29°C, providing a warm climate typical of this time of year.

The winds will blow from the northeast to the east, with speeds ranging from 10 to 25 km/h, which could create a feeling of coolness in some coastal areas.

Regarding sea conditions, swells are forecasted along the northeastern coast, decreasing to waves by the afternoon. Along the northwestern coast and in the area from Cabo Cruz to Punta de Maisí, wave activity is expected throughout the day.
