A Cuban identified as Dayamin Sierra has requested humanitarian assistance to repatriate her father's body, who passed away on February 24 in Russia. The woman expressed her desperation through a Facebook post, where she denounced the lack of responses from Cuban authorities.
"Good morning, two days ago, on February 24, a wonderful husband, father, and son of Cuban nationality passed away in Russia. As his daughter, I am seeking help to understand how I can bring my father's body back to Cuba, since we have written to everyone here in Cuba and no one is able to respond, or answer any phone calls. They do not provide any answers at all, and the currency we have is worthless," wrote Sierra in the public group Collective Help Foundation For a Better World Fátima Cuellar".
According to his testimony, his request is purely humanitarian and has no profit motives. "I am only asking for humanitarian aid; it is not to make money or gain any advantage, just to help me understand how I can receive a response, where I can go to get news on what I need to do to bring my father's body here to Cuba and give him a proper farewell and eternal rest," he added in his message, which he accompanied with several photos of his father.
The case of this family is not isolated. In recent months, other stories have emerged of Cubans who died in Russia, whose families have faced difficulties in repatriating their bodies.
In April 2024, the family of a 36-year-old Cuban, identified as Yoendris Hardy Hernández, requested assistance to repatriate his body following his death in Russia due to a heart attack.
At the beginning of that same year, the mother of Raibel Palacio Herrera, a young Cuban who died in the war between Russia and Ukraine, reported that she had no information about the location of her son's body nor about his possible repatriation.
In July 2023, the family of Osniel Ferrán Martínez, a young man who died of pneumonia in Moscow, urgently requested assistance to repatriate his body to the island.
