The Civil Defense (DC) of Cuba issued an alert to the public on Monday regarding the risk of flooding caused by the arrival of a cold front in the western part of the country, warning about the danger of walking in flooded areas.

According to the note from the Civil Defense, which cited the Forecast Center of INSMET, numerous showers, rain, and thunderstorms are expected this Monday afternoon, which could lead to water accumulation in low-lying areas and those with poor drainage.

The authorities have advised citizens to avoid traveling through flooded areas and to seek shelter from lightning in safe places.

"If possible, wait for the waters to recede," the statement emphasized.

"Do not act recklessly, protect your life," emphasizes the statement, urging the public to take precautions against adverse weather conditions.

The alert from the DC is preceded by a tragic event that occurred last February, when a child was sucked into an open drain during a severe flood in Havana, following the heavy rains recorded during that period.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Vía Blanca and 10 de Octubre, one of the areas most affected by the rainfall in the Cuban capital.

The tragic event caused deep shock in the community, where friends, family, and neighbors gathered to say their final goodbye to Jonathan Oliva, the 13-year-old boy who lost his life after being sucked into a drain.
