The well-known Cuban jeweler York Pérez was the victim of a violent robbery carried out by three armed, masked men dressed in black, who subdued his family and took valuable belongings.
"They took him to the house. They gathered the rest of the family and locked them in a room", explained Officer Samantha Choon to Local 10.
According to Choon, "one of the individuals held the victims at gunpoint in the room while the other two ransacked the house".
Detective Luis Sierra from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office reported that officers responded to a call at a residence located at Southwest 284th Street and 130th Avenue in the unincorporated area of Miami-Dade.
The thieves took jewelry, designer clothing, luxury handbags, and two watches, in addition to stealing the family's white Cadillac.
Despite the violence of the attack, no injuries were reported, "but it was a terrifying situation," clarified Choon.
The affected party, York Pérez, who has over 121,000 followers on TikTok, posted a video where he described the horror he experienced and announced that he would temporarily close his businesses.
"My greatest fear in life is that something happens to my daughter," he wrote on the social network.
According to the entrepreneur, the police confirmed that they would provide security near the area. "This experience will help me to scale back a bit on social media," he mentioned.
Pérez's comment comes in response to a previous video where he shared images of his home, including a life-sized statue of Saint Lazarus, the patron of the poor and sick, who is also venerated in Afro-Cuban santería, along with photos of his pregnant wife and young daughter.
"I never thought I would live this moment. I also didn't have a gun with me. And that's what I say: Thank God, because it would have been different," he expressed in the video.
Pérez frequently uses his social media to promote gold jewelry, large rings, and pendants with diamond inlays, which may have made him a target for criminals.
He also had a message for the assailants: "May God bless you!"
