This is how the accident happened

The accident occurred in the afternoon on Monday when a private Deluxe brand pickup truck, with license plate P 168 947, lost control on a curve of the road near Loma Santa Fe, in the municipality of Camajuaní. There were seven passengers in the vehicle; five of them were injured and two were unharmed.

A tragic week on Cuban roads

The accident in Villa Clara adds to other traffic incidents that have marked a particularly tragic start to the week in Cuba. In Santiago de Cuba, during the early hours of the same Monday, a collision between two motorcycles resulted in three fatalities and one minor injury.

The victims were identified as Félix Sandi Ortiz (39 years old) and Darilen Gonce Salas (20 years old), who were riding on an electric motorcycle, and Leonel Bell Bravo (22 years old), the driver of a Jawa motorcycle who died during surgery following the impact. The third passenger, Víctor Ernesto Baibir (29 years old), sustained minor injuries and was discharged the same day, according to the official report.

On the other hand, in Guantánamo, a potentially fatal accident was avoided thanks to the quick reaction of the driver Luis Antonio Rodríguez Griñán, who managed to control a bus with no brakes while descending the dangerous La Farola viaduct, successfully preventing casualties or greater damage.

These facts reflect the serious situation of traffic in Cuba, where the deterioration of roads, the lack of technical maintenance for vehicles, and the absence of more effective road safety measures combine.
