Man kills a woman in front of a food truck in Miami and is shot dead by the police hours later

The murdered woman was only 27 years old.

A dramatic episode of violence shook the Allapattah area in Miami-Dade County on Monday when a man fatally shot a woman and fired at a second man. Hours later, the shooter was killed in a confrontation with authorities elsewhere.

The incident unfolded in two separate scenes: first in front of a food truck, and hours later at a hotel where the suspect was found.

It all began early Monday morning in the area of 27th Avenue and 30th Street in northwest Miami-Dade. According to the County Sheriff's Office (MDSO), a dispute preceded the shooting.

The man opened fire on two individuals, a woman and a man, who were sitting next to a food truck. A third woman managed to escape unharmed.

The security cameras captured the moment of the attack.

The images show how the attacker gets out of a vehicle, walks towards the victims, pulls out a weapon, and shoots directly at the woman.

"First, he fires at the woman, and when she falls to the ground, he shoots her again, before aiming at the man and the other woman," explained Officer Ángel Rodríguez in statements to America Tevé.

The woman died at the scene, while the man was transported in critical condition to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he passed away shortly thereafter.

The female victim was identified as Jeankerly María Linares Marín, a Venezuelan woman and mother of two children, a three-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy. She had arrived in the United States just seven months ago.

A family source revealed to Univision that the woman was brutally murdered while waiting for a food order.

The attacker was a regular customer at the café where Jeankerly worked. They say that the man developed a dangerous obsession with her and even stalked her.

Pursuit and confrontation in a hotel

Hours after the shooting, investigators were able to identify the alleged perpetrator and began tracking his whereabouts. Finally, later that evening, the agents located the suspect at the Extended Stay hotel, situated at 7th Street and 69th Avenue in the northwest part of the county.

"The individual, when he left the unit he was in, got into his car and at that moment the agents attempted to intercept him to take him into custody. Unfortunately, there was an exchange of gunfire in which the individual was shot and died," explained Ángel Rodríguez.

During this confrontation, which occurred around 9:30 p.m., no agent or hotel guest was injured. However, the incident caused great shock among those present at the location.

"Last night I heard gunshots, but we thought they were fireworks; there were about four or five shots and then my wife saw the police around the hotel, but we didn't know what had happened," said Michel Lutz, a guest at the hotel.

The suspect's body was found inside the vehicle he tried to escape in and was removed from the scene by a tow truck. Authorities have not yet disclosed his identity.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation of the encounter that resulted in the death of the alleged assailant, while the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the motive behind the double homicide.

"At this time, the investigation is ongoing, and we are working to establish the relationship between the victims in this case," Rodríguez concluded.
