Cuban dies in Suriname after being hit by a driver who attempted to flee

A Cuban citizen identified as Ángel Seijo Rojas, originally from the Vázquez neighborhood in Camagüey, died this Monday after being struck by a car on the Kwattaweg road in Suriname.

According to eyewitnesses and reports shared on social media, the accident occurred when a Toyota car struck the Cuban and then fled the scene.

Fortunately, another driver who witnessed the incident chased down the perpetrator and forced him to return to the scene of the crime.

Nevertheless, the individual, described as aggressive, attempted to escape again, but thanks to the quick action of bystanders and video recordings, the Surinam police were able to capture him.

The news began to spread rapidly in groups like "Latinos in Suriname" and was shared by users on Facebook along with images of the deceased's identity card.

Urgent help was requested to contact his family in Cuba. Shortly after, the Cuban Lázaro Valdivia Mayoral, a member of the group “Ciego de Ávila de todo un poco,” confirmed his identity and thanked those who assisted.

"Thank you to everyone who helped and collaborated. Mr. Ángel Seijo Rojas was from Reparto Vázquez, Camagüey. He was a Christian and passed away due to being struck by a car, which took his life instantly. Rest in peace."

Furthermore, it is understood through family members and neighbors that the deceased's wife remains in Cuba with their young son.

The community has responded with empathy, and several people close to the family, including neighbors, have confirmed that they are doing everything possible to provide support during these challenging times.
