The renowned Cuban actor Jorge Losada, who was urgently admitted to the Manuel Fajardo Clinical Surgical University Hospital in Havana, has now been discharged.
According to a post on Facebook by Luis Lacosta, art director of the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industry (ICAIC), and close associate of Losada, the 91-year-old actor is at home.
"The actor Jorge Losada is now home. Thanks to Hospital Fajardo and its brilliant and excellent doctors, they resolved the great scare they caused us", wrote Lacosta on Wednesday afternoon, without disclosing the reason for Losada's hospital admission.
Previously, after urgently requesting donations of A Positive blood for Losada, the artist's friend mentioned that he had significantly improved following the transfusions.
"I just received a call to tell you that Losada has improved significantly after the transfusions, and no more are needed. I will keep friends and admirers updated on anything else," he said on Facebook.
He also highlighted that the care at Fajardo Hospital was "excellent."
The prominent actor has recently faced various health issues. In April 2024, Losada had to be hospitalized in the same hospital where he is currently located, due to several complications arising from a hip prosthesis.
The artist had been admitted with severe pain and it was found that the hip prosthesis he had received years ago had come out of place.
Months after leaving the hospital, it was revealed that he needed a wheelchair for mobility, but he couldn't afford one. After seeking help from government institutions, he had no choice but to appeal to the solidarity of Cubans through social media
In February 2021, Losada had undergone surgery and as a result of the operation, he developed severe anemia. Due to the shortage of medications in Cuba, his friend Luis Lacosta turned to the Internet to request medications.
Immediately, several people expressed solidarity and proposed ideas to promptly deliver the medicines.
Losada, a prestigious actor in film, theater, and television, recovered and in 2023 participated in the Cuban telenovela Renacer, an experience he described as "unique."
"Because I’m a gossip and in real life, I’m not, but in the soap opera, I speak ill of everyone and I don't even know why," he explained in an interview given to actor Ulises González for Cubaactores.
"And perhaps this will be my last appearance and that I give that bad... image," he added in an endearing video.
