A severe local storm caused significant damage to homes and the electrical system in a town in Puerto Padre, Las Tunas, on the afternoon of this Saturday.

According to what was reported in official local media, the main impacts occurred in the Delicias People's Council, where wind gusts reached 76 km/h at 5:12 PM.

The greatest damage occurred in electrical and communication networks. Additionally, a tree fell in the yard of a home and destroyed a storage room.

The provincial government explained on social media that the strong winds were due to the presence of a trough, high humidity levels, and significant atmospheric instability.

At 8:00 PM, the rainfall accumulation at the weather station in Puerto Padre was 10 millimeters (mm); at the one in Las Tunas, 10.6 mm; and at the Provincial Meteorological Center's rain gauge, 28.5 mm. The storm left a trail of destruction, fallen trees, and downed power poles.

In the area of the Quevedo Station, a centuries-old tree brought down the power lines, and the neighbors took on the task of removing it.

The authorities stated that they met with those affected and are already restoring telephone and electricity lines in the town.

For this Sunday, cloudy weather is forecasted, with some showers, rain, and isolated thunderstorms. They warned that in areas of rain and thunderstorms, the winds "may be somewhat strong."

In the last two months, heavy showers, rainfall, and intense thunderstorms have been recorded in several provinces of Cuba, including Artemisa, La Habana, and Mayabeque. Additionally, hail has been confirmed in the municipality of Guanajay, province of Artemisa.
