Carolina of Monaco, princess of Hanover, visited Havana accompanied by her daughter and attended the presentation of the Monte Carlo Ballet at the National Theatre of Cuba this Friday.
The journey of the princess is part of the second visit of the dance company of the Principality of Monaco to Havana, where this Friday they premiered Core Meu (My Heart), as reported by Cuban state media.
The artistic director of the company from the Principality of Monaco, Jean-Christophe Maillot, informed the agency EFE that the piece is set in the Mediterranean Sea to the rhythm of the tarantella, a popular dance from southern Italy.
"It is a very special show in which all the dancers are on stage the entire time, something quite unusual, but that reinforces the message of the necessity to dance and share," said the choreographer, who specified that the performances will continue until this Sunday.
This Saturday, Carolina of Monaco also visited the Casa Guayasamín in Old Havana, where she donated the portrait created by the Ecuadorian painter.

"Che Vera, the President of the Guayasamín Foundation, emphasized the noble and generous gesture of the Princess in times when selfishness prevails, the deep friendship that united Fidel and Oswaldo, and the Foundation's loyalty to that legacy of love for Cuba and the Cuban Revolution," highlighted the regime spokesperson Abel Prieto, president of the Casa de las Américas.
During her visit to the Casa Guayasamín, Carolina also appeared alongside the director of the National Ballet of Cuba, Viengsay Valdés.
This is the second time the Monte Carlo Ballet is visiting Cuba. The previous visit was in 2015 to present their version of Cinderella. On both that occasion and this one, Princess Carolina has accompanied the dancers.
The Monte Carlo Ballet, founded in 1936, was revived 40 years ago by Carolina to "promote the image of Monaco through dance," as reported by EFE.
Driven by her mother Grace Kelly's love for ballet, Carolina shone as a budding dancer and has been a significant patron of the arts in Europe.
She not only founded the Ballet of Monte Carlo but has also served as president of the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Monte Carlo Opera, the Prince Pierre Foundation, the Spring Arts Festival, the Monte Carlo Garden Club, and the Princess Grace Foundation.
