A bus on route P7 (number 715) was involved in an accident early this Monday in Havana, after its driver was attacked by several individuals while making his regular trip from the intersection at Fraternidad Park to El Cotorro.
As a result of the assault -of which no details have emerged- the driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up crashing into a house located at the intersection of Calzada de Luyanó and Ensenada, in the municipality of Diez de Octubre.
Despite the violence of the impact - which was reported on social media by the Facebook group Transportación Habana TH - fortunately, no loss of human life or injuries have been reported.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m., shortly after leaving a stop.
The material damages at the accident site were considerable, judging by the images shared on social media.
The Revolutionary National Police (PNR) quickly arrived at the scene to address the emergency and begin the relevant investigations.
"They say that the driver was attacked by several individuals when leaving the stop, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the façade of the house across the street, as the bus was coming from the Parque de la Fraternidad towards its stop in El Cotorro, wrote internet user Fernado Alonso, one of the first to report the incident."
The official source specified that Alberro's technical team conducted intensive work to recover the vehicle and restore it to operational condition.
"This cannot be allowed."
The incident has provoked a wave of public outrage. Dozens of Cubans expressed their concern over the rising level of violence on the streets, especially during the early hours of the morning, when many workers rely on public transportation.
"Now the broken bus and the house too. What a lack of respect, because they could have even caused fatal harm to people," lamented a commentator, reflecting the widespread feeling of helplessness.
"Did they catch any of the killers? Because we must call them that, killers; there are no other words," "Crime in Cuba is increasing at an unprecedented rate," "It will be necessary to have armed plainclothes police on night buses. Something definitely needs to be done; we can't wait for there to be fatal victims," were other opinions.
In search of solutions, many citizens called for exemplary punishments.
"Summary trial, without benefits, and to be informed through all official means"; "No passes, no reduction of years. A hard day's work in agriculture or construction"; "This is becoming something commonplace. We cannot accept it. We must act swiftly, promptly, with quick responses," recommended others.
Until the closure of this note, there are no further details on the unfortunate event, which adds to other recent violent incidents that public transportation in the capital has faced.
At the end of March, a bus on the P7 route was stoned in the municipality of Cotorro. In that incident, it occurred after four in the morning and caused damage to the glass of a left-side window.
