The state airline Cubana de Aviación announced this Saturday the resumption of its regular flights between Cuba and Germany, a connection that had been suspended for over two decades.
Starting in November 2025, the airline will operate two weekly flights, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, using a modern Airbus A330-200 with a capacity for 287 passengers, reported Cuban Transport Minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila on Facebook.
The official highlighted through their social media that this new link aims to strengthen the island's connectivity with Europe and respond to the growing international competition in the air travel market.
"Cubana de Aviación opens new horizons between Cuba and Germany," celebrated the Minister of Transport.

The announcement, however, comes at a challenging time for tourism in Cuba. Official data from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) shows that between January and March 2025, the country welcomed 759,641 international travelers, representing a decrease of 22.7% compared to the same period in 2024.
In absolute terms, the island lost 223,323 visitors compared to the previous year. The situation is also reflected in the figures from the Directorate of Identification, Immigration, and Foreigners, which reports only 571,772 entries into the country, representing 70.7% of the total recorded in 2024.
The Russian market, one of the most important for Cuba in recent years, experienced a drop of 49.9% in the number of tourists.
On social media, news of the decline in tourism has sparked strong criticism from Cuban citizens, who point to the poor quality of services, the scarcity of basic products, and the requirement to pay in foreign currency as factors that deter the arrival of visitors.
"What were you expecting?" questioned one user, while others noted that "no one wants to come to a country in ruins" or that "tourism will continue to decline."
Despite the complex scenario, Cubana de Aviación is committed to maintaining its international presence, enhancing its image, and consolidating strategic alliances with airlines and tour operators.
Furthermore, the company reaffirmed its commitment to promote Cuba as a safe, unique, and sustainable destination; however, it does not mention the growing insecurity on the island and the systemic crisis.
